Recommendation (EU) 2018/1149 of 10 August 2018 which aims to assist and facilitate companies in understanding the definition of Conflict and High Risk Areas (CAHRAs) and assist them in identifying both such areas and other risks in mining supply chains. In particular, the guidelines set out the basic principles for identifying just such areas; a key element of the guidelines is the reference to and discussion of open sources of information, as well as specific risk indicators (origin and transit of minerals, suppliers, serious abuses related to mining, transport or trade, etc.).
a multilateral partnership funded by the European Commission that aims to increase the proportion of responsibly produced minerals from conflict or high-risk areas (CAHRAs) and to support socially responsible mining of minerals that contributes to development by financing projects at the local level to support better social, environmental and economic conditions for mining communities. It is a voluntary joint initiative of civil society groups and non-governmental organisations (NGOs), industry and government. Other main objectives include: creating a forum where members can exchange experiences of responsible sourcing of minerals and metals, investing in conflict-affected and high-risk mining areas to make mining sustainable, especially artisanal and small-scale mining (ASM).
